The plant was built in 1899 by E. Palmer Simpson. Built to supply electricity to Toccoa and surrounding area. The water from the penstock spun the 200 watt generator and was distributed through a switchboard. Georgia Power acquired the plant in 1927, and was given to Toccoa Falls Institute in 1933. The plant was used by the college until 1947

The Ritz Theater was constructed in 1939. The Ritz installed a neon marquee in 2016 and a sound system in 2017.

In 1990 a program was created by the City of Toccoa to revive the main street area of downtown. The Main Street Program was created to improve the quality and to strengthen the Downtown Area of Toccoa. The program has brought about a sense of pride and a new look, that is still changing. The Main Street Program has received numerous awards for there work.

93.1 FM and AM 630 is the only commercial radio in Stephens county. WNEG began broadcasting in 1956 and is The Voice of Northeast Georgia.

Lake Toccoa is the city's newest park. Plans are to build a pier with paddle boats and a recreational trail around the lake. Also is the newly renovated Reflections, a event center and Pings Grill where one can find the best burger in town. A 9 hole golf course is also available.

North Broad Trestle was constructed between the years of 1915 to 1919. The trestle is approximately 1400 feet long. It has 2 pairs rails that are approximately 200 feet above the North Broad River.

Stephens County Hospital is located in Toccoa, Ga., a family centered community in Northeast Georgia. Stephens County Hospital is a 96 bed facility with 550 employees.
Stephens County Hospital is a member of the Georgia Hospital Association, American Hospital Association, and Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals. Stephens County Hospital is s fully accredited facility, designated by the Joint Commission.
